Happy St. Patrick's Day

Fun Facts....Wearing of the green

Originally, the colour associated with Saint Patrick was blue. Over the years the color green and its association with Saint Patrick's day grew. Green ribbons and shamrocks were worn in celebration of St Patrick's Day as early as the 17th century. Saint Patrick is said to have used the shamrock, a three-leaved plant, to explain the Holy Trinity to the pagan Irish, and the wearing and display of shamrocks and shamrock-inspired designs have become a common feature of the day. In the 1798 rebellion, to make a political statement, Irish soldiers wore full green uniforms on the 17th March in hopes of catching public attention. The phrase "the wearing of the green", meaning to wear a shamrock on one's clothing, derives from a song of the same name.

The Chicago Flower and Garden Show 2013

This past weekend was the kick off to the annual Flower and Garden Show at Navy Pier. Some of our staff went to see the great displays, here are a few pictures of what you might see if you attend.

The displays had elements down to the little details. Aquascape Designs had the music and water captured using an actual piano and trumpets in their waterfalls. While others had the winding paths and collections placed in the perfect spots along your stroll.

Several cake companies displayed their artistry along the way. This one is from a Lovin Oven location...the details were amazing and so intricate...look out Cake Boss!

Our in-house stationer, Carol of Carol Woldhuis Designs showed some of her work in the Tablescape booth of event planner Sharon Ringier. Titled Alice in Wonderland meets Breakfast at Tiffany, this tea party set up was surely unique down to the last detail. Using the whimsical feel and theme Carol painted the signage and added a touch to the table with a menu for each Holly and Alice.

Great show and definitely a family event too! Hope you check it out.

Roses were of the plenty this week, several shipments were received.

The phone was certainly busy with the Valentine's rush and a Daddy Daughter Dance in the same week.

One of our freelance designers, Polly was putting together a beautiful hand tie for a client while they waited.

Jill was busy routing our drivers for a smooth day of deliveries in the trucks.

Mike aka BANJO, is getting his routes all set and loaded for the first run of the day.

All in all another successful Valentine's Day under the belt at Joseph's....
